2001-P Buffalo $1 Silver Commem Proof (w/Box & COA)

0.7734 troy oz .900 2001 Proof

In 2001, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking silver commemorative dollar that pays tribute to classic American numismatic art. Struck in 0.900 fine silver with a precious metal content of 0.7734 troy ounces, this proof coin revives a celebrated aesthetic originally seen on five-cent pieces circulating from 1913 to 1938. The obverse of the coin features a powerful composite portrait created by combining the features of three different Native American chiefs. This side includes the inscription LIBERTY and the year of issue. The design represents a respectful and enduring image from America's coinage history. On the reverse, a magnificent American bison dominates the field. This depiction was modeled after Black Diamond, a famous live bison. Surrounding the animal are the traditional inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value of ONE DOLLAR, alongside the P mint mark representing the Philadelphia Mint.
