This clad half dollar, minted in 2001, commemorates the initiative to build a dedicated Visitor Center for the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. It has been certified in perfect Mint State 70 condition, highlighting the precise details of its commemorative artwork. The obverse design presents a visual history of the Capitol building itself, showing the original North Wing superimposed over an outline of the modern, expanded structure. It features the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and U.S. CAPITOL, alongside the dual dates of 1800 and 2001. On the reverse, the coin displays a circular arrangement of 16 stars, which represent the 16 states in existence in the year 1800 when Congress first convened in the Capitol.
