In 2001, the Philadelphia Mint produced a circulating quarter dollar celebrating the state of Vermont. This brilliant uncirculated coin features a dual-metal composition, consisting of an outer layer of copper and nickel bonded securely to a core of pure copper. The obverse displays the classic profile of George Washington, a design originally created by John Flanagan. Legible inscriptions on this side include the words LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the P mint mark indicating its origin in Philadelphia. The reverse side, designed by T. William Cousins, captures the natural essence of Vermont. It depicts maple trees equipped with sap buckets, set against the backdrop of the distinctive Camel's Hump Mountain. This side bears the state name, the year of its admission to the Union (1791), the year of issue (2001), and the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The state motto, FREEDOM AND UNITY, is also prominently featured, celebrating the independent spirit of the Green Mountain State.
