In 2002, the United States Mint continued its celebrated series of statehood quarters by honoring Mississippi. This particular coin, struck at the Denver Mint, is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the crisp details of its dual-sided artistry. Composed of a copper-nickel blend bonded to a core of pure copper, the coin represents a durable and classic piece of modern American pocket art. The reverse side of the coin celebrates the natural beauty of Mississippi, widely known as the Magnolia State. Designed by Donna Weaver, this side features a pair of elegant magnolia blossoms with their leaves gently intertwining. The inscriptions on this face include the state name, the nickname "The Magnolia State," the year 2002, and the traditional national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." On the obverse, the coin displays the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR." The distinct "D" mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the Denver coinage facility.
