In 2003, the United States Mint continued its popular circulating commemorative program with a tribute to Arkansas. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this twenty-five cent coin represents the twenty-fifth entry in the landmark fifty-state series. The coin is preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster of its copper-nickel clad composition, which features a outer layer bonded to a pure copper core. The obverse displays the familiar profile of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR," alongside the "P" mint mark indicating its Philadelphia origin. The reverse, designed by William Cousins, celebrates the natural wealth and identity of Arkansas. It depicts a large diamond, a mallard duck in flight over a serene lake, and stalks of rice. The design is framed by the state's name, the year of its statehood, "1836," the release year of "2003," and the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
