In 2003, the United States Mint celebrated the coastal beauty of America's northeasternmost state with this twenty-five cent piece struck at the Philadelphia facility. This specimen remains in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its dual-sided artwork. The coin's physical makeup consists of an outer layer of copper-nickel bonded securely to a core of pure copper. The obverse features John Flanagan's classic profile of George Washington, accompanied by the traditional inscriptions of liberty and national trust. On the reverse, artist Donna Weaver captures the spirit of the Pine Tree State. The design depicts the historic Pemaquid Point Light perched atop a craggy stone shoreline, while a sailboat glides across the open waters in the background. This side also bears the state's name, the year 1820 to mark its admission to the Union, the year of release, and the motto signifying national unity.
