2003-S Arkansas State Quarter Gem Proof (Silver)

In 2003, the San Francisco Mint produced a striking silver edition of the Arkansas state quarter, struck in a proof finish. This coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. The proof striking process gives the coin a highly reflective background and frosted details, highlighting the intricate artwork on both sides. The obverse features the classic profile portrait of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins. The inscriptions on this side include the words of national identity, including the United States of America, Liberty, In God We Trust, and the face value of Quarter Dollar. The small S mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin in San Francisco. On the reverse, designed by John Mercanti, the coin celebrates the natural wealth and symbols of Arkansas. The design depicts a mallard duck in flight over a serene lake, flanked by stalks of rice. Positioned above the water is a large diamond, representing the state's unique geological treasures. The reverse is inscribed with the state name Arkansas, the year of its statehood 1836, the year of issue 2003, and the traditional motto E Pluribus Unum.
