This modern ten dollar gold coin marks a century of aviation progress, celebrating the momentous day of December 17, 1903, when humanity first achieved powered, controlled flight. Struck by the United States Mint at the West Point facility, this piece contains 0.4838 troy ounces of gold within its 0.900 fine composition. It stands as a beautifully preserved tribute to one of the greatest technological leaps in human history, graded in near-flawless Mint State 69 condition. The obverse of the coin presents a direct view of the pioneering brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, in overlapping portraits. Surrounding their likenesses are the inscriptions "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST", and "FIRST FLIGHT CENTENNIAL", along with the dual dates of "1903" and "2003" to mark the hundred-year anniversary. On the reverse side, the design captures the iconic 1903 Wright Flyer in mid-air alongside a majestic American bald eagle, both soaring above the coastal dunes of North Carolina.
