2004-D Keelboat Nickel BU
In 2004, the United States Mint updated the five cent piece to honor the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This particular coin, struck at the Denver Mint and preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, features a dynamic reverse design that captures the spirit of early American exploration. The reverse of the coin showcases a detailed depiction of a keelboat, the vessel used to navigate the rivers of the American West. Above the vessel, the inscription LEWIS & CLARK directly references the legendary explorers who led the Corps of Discovery. The obverse retains the classic portrait of Thomas Jefferson, paired with the traditional mottos IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY alongside the 2004 year of issue.
