In 2004, the United States Mint released a twenty-five cent piece honoring the state of Texas. This specific coin, struck at the Denver facility, displays a brilliant uncirculated finish that highlights the sharp details of its dual-sided artwork. The composition of the quarter consists of an outer layer of copper and nickel bonded securely to an inner core of pure copper. On the front, the coin features the classic profile of George Washington, a design originally created by John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's portrait are the familiar inscriptions of liberty, the national motto, and the denomination. The Denver origin is indicated by the small letter D mint mark. The reverse side, designed by Norman Nemeth, showcases a large outline of the state of Texas. A single, oversized star is superimposed over the state map, representing its famous nickname.
