The 2004 Lincoln Cent represents a modern continuation of one of the most enduring coin designs in United States history. Struck in Philadelphia, this particular specimen is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, displaying the vibrant red luster characteristic of freshly minted zinc and copper coins. The metal composition of this issue consists of 99.2 percent zinc with a thin outer plating of 0.8 percent copper. The obverse features the historic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln, originally created by designer Victor David Brenner. This side bears the familiar inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 2004 year of issue. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, it does not display a mint mark, keeping with the traditional practice for pennies from that facility. On the reverse, the coin displays the Lincoln Memorial, a design by Frank Gasparro that was minted continuously from 1959 to 2008. A close look at this detailed architectural rendering reveals the tiny representation of the Lincoln statue inside the monument. The reverse is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination ONE CENT, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
