2004-P Lewis & Clark Bicent'l $1 Silver Commem Prf (w/Box & COA)
In 2004, a special silver dollar was minted to mark the bicentennial of the legendary expedition led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. This historic journey of exploration charted the vast expanse of the newly acquired Louisiana Territory. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a purity of 0.900 silver, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal and features a total mintage of 351,989 pieces. The obverse of the coin captures the two explorers standing alongside a riverbank amidst lush foliage. Meriwether Lewis is shown holding a rifle barrel and a journal, turning his gaze toward William Clark, who looks out into the far distance. This detailed scene, created by designer Donna Weaver, evokes the spirit of discovery and documentation that defined their trek. On the reverse, the design replicates the historic Jefferson Indian peace medal. The inscriptions on the coin include the commemorative years of 1804 and 1806, the year of issue 2004, and the words LEWIS & CLARK BICENTENNIAL. Other traditional inscriptions such as E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the face value of ONE DOLLAR are also clearly integrated into the design, celebrating a monumental chapter in exploration.
