2004-P Thomas Edison $1 Silver Commem Proof (w/Box & COA)
In 2004, the United States Mint commemorated a monumental leap in human innovation: the 125th anniversary of Thomas Edison's first successful demonstration of the electric light bulb in 1879. This silver dollar, struck in proof quality at the Philadelphia Mint, contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver and serves as a striking tribute to one of history's greatest inventors. The obverse of the coin, designed by Donna Weaver, features a detailed portrait of Thomas Alva Edison holding a light bulb. Alongside his image, the inscriptions include his name, the year 2004, and the traditional mottoes "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY". The initials "DW" subtly mark the designer's work. On the reverse, designed by John Mercanti, the focus shifts to the invention itself, depicting Edison's historic first light bulb. This side is inscribed with "125th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIGHT BULB" and the dual dates "1879" and "2004". It also bears the national identifiers "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "ONE DOLLAR", and "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Together, these designs celebrate a spark of genius that forever changed the modern world.
