2004-S Wisconsin State Quarter Gem Proof
In 2004, the United States Mint continued its popular multi-year program honoring each state with a special quarter design. This brilliant San Francisco minted proof edition celebrates Wisconsin, capturing the essence of the state's agricultural identity. The reverse side features a detailed composition showcasing a cow, a partial wheel of cheese, and a single ear of corn, all accompanied by a banner bearing the state motto, "FORWARD". The year of issue, 2004, and the national motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM", are also inscribed on this side. On the obverse, the coin displays the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington. This side carries the traditional inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST", and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR". It also bears the "S" mint mark, indicating its origin as a proof strike from the San Francisco Mint. The obverse design represents the collaborative work of John Flanagan and William Cousins, while Alfred Maletsky created the agriculture-themed reverse.
