The 2005 American Silver Eagle stands as a striking example of modern United States coinage, containing one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver. Backed by the United States government for its weight and purity, this one-dollar coin belongs to a celebrated series that ran from 1986 to 2021. Its physical presence combines precise metal standards with some of the most recognizable imagery in American numismatic history. On the obverse, the coin displays a graceful figure of Lady Liberty in stride, draped in the national flag as she walks toward a rising sun emerging from behind a mountain ridge. This elegant presentation, created by Adolph A. Weinman, is a revival of the classic Walking Liberty motif. The legible inscriptions on this side include the date 2005 and the traditional phrase IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse side, designed by John Mercanti, features a bold heraldic eagle that draws inspiration from the Great Seal of the United States. Positioned beneath thirteen small stars representing the original founding colonies, the eagle grasps an olive branch in its right talon and a bundle of arrows in its left. In its beak, the bird holds a scroll inscribed with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the surrounding text reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and denotes the face value of ONE DOLLAR.
