In 2005, the United States Mint continued its celebrated commemorative series with a tribute to the state of Kansas. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this twenty-five cent piece captures a distinctive midwestern scene on its reverse, bringing a touch of natural beauty to everyday pocket change. The coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster of its copper and nickel composition, which is bonded to a core of pure copper. The reverse side of the quarter features a detailed depiction of an American buffalo alongside a blooming sunflower, symbolizing the rich wildlife and flora of the Kansas landscape. Above this central image, the state name KANSAS and the year of its admission to the Union, 1861, are inscribed. Below the buffalo, the year of issue, 2005, sits alongside the traditional national motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, the coin displays the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington. This rendition, originally created by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins, is surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The small P mint mark, located to the right of the presidential profile, confirms its origin from the historic Philadelphia minting facility.
