In 2005, the Philadelphia Mint struck a memorable tribute to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. This twenty-five cent piece, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, features a composition of copper and nickel bonded to an inner core of pure copper. The coin serves as a miniature canvas showcasing one of the most famous geological wonders in the United States. The front of the quarter displays the classic portrait of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's profile are the familiar inscriptions of liberty and trust, along with the small P mint mark indicating its origin in Philadelphia. On the reverse, designed by Donna Weaver, the coin captures a breathtaking view of Crater Lake as seen from the south-southwest rim. The detailed engraving highlights Wizard Island rising from the water, flanked by the rugged silhouettes of Watchman Peak and Hillman Peak. This side also bears the state name and the year of its statehood, 1859, alongside the national motto and the 2005 release date.
