2006 1 oz Gold Buffalo MS-69 NGC

1.0000 troy oz .9999 2006 NGC

In 2006, the United States introduced a striking new gold piece that revived some of the most celebrated imagery in American numismatic history. Struck in one full ounce of incredibly pure 0.9999 fine gold, this fifty-dollar coin marked the very first year of issue for the prestigious American Buffalo series. The obverse of the coin features a powerful portrait of a Native American chieftain, a design adapted from the famous 1913 Buffalo Nickel created by sculptor James Earle Fraser. This side also bears the word LIBERTY, the year of issue 2006, and the letter F, which honors the original artist. On the reverse, the coin showcases a magnificent American bison, modeled after Black Diamond, a famous resident of the Central Park Zoo in New York during the early 1900s. The majestic animal stands as a symbol of the American West, surrounded by traditional inscriptions including IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the coin's weight and purity specifications.
