In 2006, the United States introduced a major milestone in its modern minting history with the debut of the Gold Buffalo series. This inaugural release represents the first time the nation offered a coin struck in 24-karat, 0.9999 fine gold. Backed fully by the United States government, this fifty-dollar denomination coin contains exactly one troy ounce of pure gold and has been certified in perfect Mint State 70 condition. The visual design of this coin pays homage to classic American numismatic art. On the obverse, a detailed profile of a Native American chieftain looks toward the right. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right edge, with the 2006 year of issue positioned on the lower left. This striking portrait was originally created by the renowned sculptor James Earle Fraser. The reverse side of the coin showcases a massive American bison, an image adapted from the famous Buffalo Nickel. The animal stands in profile, surrounded by traditional national mottos including IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Additional inscriptions clearly display the country of origin, the face value of 50 dollars, and the weight and purity of the gold content, marked as 1 OZ 0.9999 FINE GOLD.
