2006-D Kennedy Half Dollar (Special Satin Finish)
In 2006, the Denver Mint produced a distinctive version of the classic Kennedy half dollar featuring a special satin finish. This specific texture offers a soft, non-reflective luster that sets it apart from standard circulating coinage and traditional proof strikes. Struck in a brilliant uncirculated condition, this copper-nickel clad coin contains a core of pure copper bonded to an outer layer of copper and nickel, a composition that has defined modern United States coinage for decades. The obverse of the coin displays the left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. This iconic likeness is paired with the Denver Mint's 'D' mint mark. On the reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, a detailed heraldic eagle clutches a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing both defense and peace. The reverse design also features the traditional motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, HALF DOLLAR, encircling the central motif.
