2006-D South Dakota State Quarter BU

0.0000 troy oz 2006 Brilliant Unc

In 2006, the United States Mint celebrated South Dakota with a special twenty-five cent coin struck at the Denver facility. This brilliant uncirculated issue showcases a distinct dual-metal composition, featuring an outer layer of copper and nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. The coin's front displays the classic profile of George Washington, a design originally created by John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's portrait are the familiar inscriptions of liberty and national trust, along with the Denver mint mark represented by the letter D. On the reverse side, designer Michael Leidel captures the spirit of the state with a detailed depiction of a Chinese ring-necked pheasant in mid-flight above the iconic Mount Rushmore National Memorial. This side also bears the state's name, the year of its statehood (1889), the coin's release year (2006), and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
