The 2006 Kennedy half dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, stands as a brilliant uncirculated example of modern American coinage. This fifty cent piece features a composition of copper and nickel outer layers bonded securely to an inner core of pure copper. The physical combination of these metals gives the coin its distinct silver colored luster while maintaining a solid copper foundation. On the obverse, the profile of President John F. Kennedy faces left, a classic portrait created by sculptor Gilroy Roberts. The inscription IN GOD WE TRUST is positioned below the bust, split by the portrait itself, with the mint mark P situated just above the date of 2006. The reverse side displays the detailed heraldic eagle designed by Frank Gasparro. The eagle holds a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing both strength and peace. Encircling this central image are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the face value, HALF DOLLAR, along with the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
