2006-S Nebraska State Quarter Gem Proof (Silver)

0.1788 troy oz .900 2006 Proof

In 2006, the San Francisco Mint struck a beautiful silver proof edition of the Nebraska state quarter. This modern coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Rendered in a brilliant proof finish, the coin displays sharp, frosted details against a mirror-like background, highlighting the intricate artistry of its dual-sided designs. The reverse side of the coin transports viewers to the American frontier, depicting a family of pioneers guiding an ox-drawn covered wagon. In the background rises the majestic spire of Chimney Rock, a famous natural landmark that guided thousands of travelers heading west. The design is inscribed with the state name, the year of statehood (1867), the landmark name "CHIMNEY ROCK," the year of minting (2006), and the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." This side was designed by Richard Masters. On the obverse, the coin features the classic left-facing portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins. Surrounding the first president's profile are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR." The small "S" mint mark, positioned to the right of the portrait, denotes its origin at the San Francisco Mint, marking this piece as a special proof issue.
