2006-S Nebraska State Quarter Gem Proof
In 2006, the United States Mint celebrated the state of Nebraska with a special quarter design that captures the spirit of westward exploration. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin features a highly polished Gem Proof finish, highlighting the sharp contrast between its frosted details and mirror-like fields. The reverse of the coin displays a dramatic scene of a pioneer family traveling in an ox-drawn covered wagon. Towering in the background is Chimney Rock, the famous natural landmark that guided countless emigrants along the trails. Above this scene, the state name and its year of statehood, 1867, are inscribed, while the year of issue, 2006, and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM rest below. On the obverse, the familiar left-facing profile of George Washington dominates the design. This side carries the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination, QUARTER DOLLAR. The small S mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the San Francisco facility.
