2006-W 1/4 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle MS/SP-69 NGC
In 2006, the United States Mint introduced a specialized finish to its beloved American Eagle series. Struck at the West Point facility in New York, this quarter-ounce gold coin features a distinctive burnished appearance, giving the precious metal a soft, matte-like texture that sets it apart from standard bullion and proof issues. With a limited worldwide production of just 15,188 pieces, this specific release represents a compelling chapter in modern American coinage. The obverse of the coin displays a classic American icon, adapted from the famous early twentieth-century gold double eagle design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Lady Liberty strides forward, holding a lit torch to light the way and an olive branch as a symbol of peace. The year 2006 is clearly inscribed alongside this powerful figure. On the reverse, a detailed family scene created by Miley Busiek unfolds. A male eagle is depicted in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young wait. This side of the coin bears the traditional mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the denomination of 10 DOLLARS and the metal specifications, which confirm it contains a quarter ounce of fine gold.
