2006-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle MS-70 NGC

1.0000 troy oz .9167 2006 NGC

In 2006, the United States Mint produced a special burnished version of its iconic fifty dollar gold piece. This issue, which saw a mintage of 45,053 pieces, contains one full troy ounce of gold. The burnishing process gives the coin a distinct appearance, setting it apart from standard bullion strikes of the same year. The obverse features a celebrated depiction of Lady Liberty walking forward, bathed in the rays of a rising sun. This design is adapted from the famous early twentieth-century gold double eagle. The word LIBERTY is inscribed above her, and the date 2006 is clearly visible. On the reverse, a detailed scene designed by Miley Busiek shows a male bald eagle in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest. Inside the nest, a female eagle watches over her young. The reverse inscriptions include the national mottos IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the country of origin, the gold content, and the face value of 50 DOLLARS.
