In 2006, the United States Mint introduced a distinctive variation to its premier bullion series by striking coins on specially prepared blanks. This burnished finish gives the gold surface a soft, matte appearance, setting it apart from standard bullion and proof issues. This specific coin has been certified at the highest possible grade of Mint State 70, representing a flawless strike with no visible imperfections under magnification. The obverse showcases a celebrated design adapted from the early twentieth-century work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Lady Liberty strides forward, bathed in the rays of a rising sun, holding a torch to light the way and an olive branch representing peace. The word LIBERTY and the year 2006 are clearly legible on this side. On the reverse, a detailed scene created by Miley Busiek depicts a family of bald eagles. A male eagle in full flight carries an olive branch home to a nest containing a female eagle and their hatchlings. This side features the national mottos IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the denomination of 50 DOLLARS and the metal weight of 1 oz fine gold. The West Point mintmark is also present, signifying its origin of manufacture.
