2007 Austria 1/2 oz Gold Philharmonic BU
Introduced originally in 1989, the Austrian Philharmonic series celebrates the rich musical heritage of Vienna. This 2007 edition, struck in one half ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, carries on a tradition of artistic excellence guaranteed by the Austrian Mint. While the series originally featured face values in Austrian schillings, the transition to the Euro currency in 2002 established the 50 Euro denomination for this specific fractional weight. The obverse of the coin features a detailed rendering of the Great Organ, the magnificent instrument housed within the Golden Hall of Vienna's famous concert hall. Inscriptions on this side include the year 2007, the face value of 50 EURO, and the weight and purity marked as 1/2 UNZE GOLD 999.9. On the reverse, a harmonious arrangement of classical instruments pays tribute to the orchestra. The design showcases a cello surrounded by violins, a harp, a Vienna horn, and a bassoon. This celebrated design is also produced in silver and platinum versions, as well as other fractional gold sizes, remaining one of the most recognizable themes in modern coinage.
