In 2007, the Denver Mint struck a distinctive twenty-five cent piece honoring the state of Montana. This coin features a composition of copper and nickel bonded to a core of pure copper, presenting a bright, brilliant uncirculated finish that highlights the fine details of its dual-sided artwork. The front of the coin displays the classic profile of George Washington, a familiar image originally created by sculptor John Flanagan. Alongside the portrait, the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust are accompanied by the Denver mint mark, represented by the letter D. On the reverse, designer Don Everhart captured the rugged spirit of the state with a detailed bison skull positioned in the foreground. Behind this powerful symbol, a diverse and expansive mountain landscape stretches across the horizon. The design is completed by the evocative inscription of the state nickname, Big Sky Country, alongside the statehood year of 1889 and the national motto.
