In 2007, the United States Mint initiated a special series of dollar coins designed to pay tribute to the nation's past chief executives. This particular coin honors Thomas Jefferson, who served as the third president from 1801 to 1809. Struck at the Denver Mint, this piece is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original luster of its unique alloy. The obverse features a detailed portrait of Jefferson, accompanied by inscriptions of his name, his order in the presidency, and the years of his term. On the reverse, the design displays the Statue of Liberty alongside the denomination of one dollar. Unlike traditional modern coinage, this series utilizes a lettered edge, leaving the faces of the coin uncluttered for the primary artwork. With a diameter of 26.5 millimeters and a weight of 8.1 grams, the coin is composed of a precise multi-metal blend. While copper makes up the vast majority of the alloy at 88.5 percent, the remaining composition includes 6 percent zinc, 3.5 percent manganese, and 2 percent nickel, giving the coin its distinctive golden appearance.
