In 2007, the United States Mint celebrated the state of Utah with a twenty-five cent coin that captures a pivotal moment in transcontinental travel. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this Brilliant Uncirculated copper-nickel clad coin features a design that honors the historic connection of a nation's eastern and western halves. The reverse side, titled Crossroads of the West, illustrates the famous golden spike ceremony. It depicts two steam locomotives facing one another, representing the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads coming together. This side of the coin was designed by William Cousins and Don Everhart, and it bears the inscriptions of the state name, the year of its statehood (1896), and the year of the coin's issue (2007). On the obverse, the classic profile of George Washington is featured, originally designed by John Flanagan. Alongside the presidential portrait, the coin displays the traditional national mottos, the denomination, and the 'P' mint mark, indicating its origin from the Philadelphia facility.
