2007-W 1/2 oz Gold Jefferson's Liberty MS-70 PCGS

0.5000 troy oz .9999 2007 MS-70 (PCGS)

Introduced in 2007, this ten-dollar gold piece represents the third release in the United States Mint's First Spouse series, a program running from 2007 to 2016. Because Thomas Jefferson was a widower during his presidential tenure starting in 1801, this issue depicts an iconic representation of Liberty rather than a first lady. The obverse features a design adapted from the historic Draped Bust Half Cent, a coin originally produced from 1800 to 1808 and designed by Robert Scot. This modern tribute was struck at the West Point Mint in New York from a half-ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, and has been certified in perfect Mint State 70 condition. The reverse of the coin, designed by Charles Vickers, displays the monument marking Thomas Jefferson's final resting place at Monticello. Inscribed on the stone is his famous self-composed epitaph, which highlights his proudest achievements: authoring the Declaration of American Independence, writing the Virginia statute for religious freedom, and founding the University of Virginia. The design also records his life dates, noting his birth on April 2, 1743, and his death on July 4, 1826.
