In 2007, the West Point Mint produced a special burnished version of the quarter-ounce gold eagle. This ten-dollar denomination coin contains exactly 0.2500 troy ounces of gold, struck from a composition of 0.9167 fine gold. Collectors often seek out these specific burnished issues for their distinct finish and lower mintage numbers, with only 12,766 of these pieces minted in 2007. This particular specimen has been certified in exceptional MS-69 condition, representing a nearly perfect strike. The obverse of the coin displays a celebrated American numismatic image, adapted from the historic twentieth-century design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It depicts Lady Liberty walking forward with strength, set against a backdrop of radiating sunbeams. The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, features a family of bald eagles. A male eagle is captured in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the country of issue, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the denomination "10 DOLLARS," the weight "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD," and the traditional mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
