In 2007, the West Point Mint produced a distinctive version of its quarter-ounce gold coin, utilizing a burnished finish that gives the metal a unique, matte appearance. This particular issue, which carries the 'W' mint mark, had a relatively limited production of only 12,766 pieces. It stands as a fascinating modern treasure for those who appreciate specialized minting techniques and lower-mintage issues. The front of the coin displays Augustus Saint-Gaudens' classic depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown stepping forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, while the United States Capitol building appears in the distant background. This side also bears the year 2007. On the reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, a family of bald eagles is depicted. A male eagle is shown in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await his return. This side features the traditional national mottos, 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' and 'IN GOD WE TRUST', alongside the weight, gold purity, and the ten-dollar face value.
