2008 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle BU
Introduced originally in 1986, the American Eagle series has become a cornerstone of modern coinage. This 2008 issue contains one-tenth of an ounce of gold, combining a classic design legacy with a smaller, highly detailed format. Authorized and guaranteed by the United States Mint, the coin carries a face value of five dollars. The front of the coin showcases a legendary design adapted from the historic Gold Double Eagle by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It features Lady Liberty walking forward, illuminated by the rays of a rising sun. In her hands, she holds a torch to light the way and an olive branch representing peace, with the United States Capitol building visible in the background. On the reverse side, the artistry of Miley Busiek comes to life. The design captures a powerful family scene, depicting a male bald eagle in mid-flight as he returns to his nest with an olive branch. Waiting in the nest are a female eagle and their young, symbolizing family unity and strength. The reverse also features the traditional mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the coin's weight and denomination.
