2008-D Hawaii State Quarter BU

0.0000 troy oz 2008 Brilliant Unc

In 2008, the Denver Mint struck a vibrant tribute to the state of Hawaii as part of the celebrated State Quarter series. This particular coin, preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition, is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. The obverse features the classic left-facing portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan and modified by William Cousins. The Denver origin is indicated by the prominent 'D' mint mark on the right side of the obverse. The reverse of the coin, designed by Don Everhart, features a powerful depiction of King Kamehameha I, the historic Hawaiian monarch. He is shown with his hand extended toward the eight major islands that make up the Hawaiian archipelago. Along with the state name and the year of statehood, 1959, the reverse bears the traditional Hawaiian state motto: 'UA MAU KE EA O KA AINA I KA PONO', which translates to 'The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.'
