In 2008, the Denver Mint struck a distinctive quarter dollar celebrating New Mexico, popularly known as the Land of Enchantment. This particular issue, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, features a composition of copper and nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. The reverse side of the coin presents a bold visual tribute to the state's heritage, centering on the sacred Zia sun symbol positioned directly over a detailed topographical outline of New Mexico. This side also bears the year of statehood, 1912, along with the state's name and the year of the coin's release, 2008. On the obverse, the familiar profile of George Washington faces left, accompanied by the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust. The small letter D beneath the inscription on the right side indicates its origin at the Denver facility, making this coin a fascinating study in regional iconography and American coinage history.
