In 2008, the Denver Mint struck a vibrant tribute to the state of Oklahoma as part of the celebrated United States State Quarters series. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its original strike just as it left the coining press. Structurally, the coin is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. The obverse features the classic left-facing portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan. Surrounding the first president's profile are the familiar inscriptions of national identity, including the words LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the QUARTER DOLLAR denomination. The small letter D beneath the right side of the portrait indicates its production at the Denver facility. On the reverse, designed by Don Everhart, the coin celebrates the natural beauty of the Sooner State. A scissortail flycatcher, the state bird of Oklahoma, is depicted in mid-flight with its long, distinctive tail feathers spread wide. Below the soaring bird, a cluster of Indian Blanket wildflowers blooms, representing the state's rich prairie landscape. The reverse is inscribed with the state's name, OKLAHOMA, the year 2008, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
