2008-P James Monroe Presidential Dollar BU

0.0000 troy oz 2008 Brilliant Unc

Introduced as part of a special program starting in 2007 to honor past United States leaders, this one dollar coin from 2008 highlights the nation's fifth president, James Monroe. Struck at the Philadelphia mint, the coin features a detailed portrait of Monroe on its obverse, accompanied by inscriptions marking his presidency from 1817 to 1825. The reverse of the coin displays a bold depiction of the Statue of Liberty alongside the denomination of one dollar. Rather than traditional smooth or reeded borders, this series utilizes a distinctive lettered edge, which moves key inscriptions to the side of the coin to allow the main designs to stand out. With a diameter of 26.5 millimeters and a weight of 8.1 grams, the coin is composed of a golden-colored alloy containing 88.5 percent copper, 6 percent zinc, 3.5 percent manganese, and 2 percent nickel. This particular specimen is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, offering a crisp look at the modern engraving techniques used to celebrate American history.
