2008-S Bald Eagle 1/2 Dollar Clad Commem BU (w/Box & COA)

0.0000 troy oz 2008 Brilliant Unc

In 2008, a special clad half dollar was issued to celebrate a major conservation milestone: the recovery of the bald eagle population and the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this copper-based coin contains no silver and features a brilliant uncirculated finish, with a total mintage of 120,180 pieces. The obverse of the coin captures the very beginning of life, depicting a bald eagle nest containing an unhatched egg alongside two young eaglets. Inscriptions on this side include the word LIBERTY, the year 2008, and the traditional motto IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, the design showcases a famous bald eagle named Challenger, set against the backdrop of the United States flag. The inscriptions on this side include CHALLENGER, E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination, HALF DOLLAR, along with the S mint mark.
