Minted at the San Francisco facility, this coin is a proof issue, crafted with polished dies to create a sharp contrast between the frosted details and the mirror-like background. Containing 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal, it represents a refined silver edition of a popular modern circulating design. The front of the quarter presents the familiar profile of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan and later modified by William Cousins. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions indicating the denomination of a quarter dollar, the national motto, and the word liberty, alongside the distinctive 'S' mint mark that identifies its origin in San Francisco. The reverse side honors Hawaiian heritage, showcasing King Kamehameha I with his hand stretched out toward the eight primary islands of the archipelago. The design incorporates the state motto in the Hawaiian language, which translates to the state's sovereignty being preserved in righteousness, alongside the statehood year of 1959, the release year of 2008, and the traditional national motto.
