On the reverse side, the coin displays a stylized Zia sun symbol positioned over a detailed topographical map of New Mexico. The inscriptions include the state name, the year of statehood (1912), the nickname "Land of Enchantment," and the national motto "E Pluribus Unum" alongside the release year of 2008. This design was crafted by William Cousins. The obverse features the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan. Surrounding the profile are the inscriptions "United States of America," "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the face value of "Quarter Dollar." The "S" mint mark is clearly visible, denoting its production at the San Francisco Mint.
