2008-S Oklahoma State Quarter Gem Proof

0.0000 troy oz 2008 Gem Proof

In 2008, the United States Mint celebrated Oklahoma with a dedicated quarter design, struck with the exceptional finish of a Gem Proof. This particular piece, minted in San Francisco, showcases a striking contrast of polished and frosted surfaces, bringing its regional imagery to life. The coin is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper. On the reverse side, the scissortail flycatcher, Oklahoma's state bird, is depicted in mid-flight with its long, distinctive tail feathers spread wide. Below the bird, a patch of Indian Blanket wildflowers adds a sense of natural beauty to the design. The year of statehood, 1907, is not present, but the release year of 2008 is clearly inscribed alongside the state name and the traditional motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM. The obverse features the classic left-facing profile of George Washington. This side bears the familiar inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, alongside the denomination of QUARTER DOLLAR. The small S mint mark indicates its origin from the San Francisco Mint, where it was crafted specifically for collectors who appreciate the highest standards of the coining art.
