2008-S Sacagawea Dollar Gem Proof
Struck by the United States government at the San Francisco Mint, this 2008 dollar coin showcases a brilliant proof finish that highlights its detailed artistry. The composition of this modern coin is a specialized blend, featuring outer layers of copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. This unique metallic combination gives the coin its characteristic golden appearance. On the obverse, designer Glenna Goodacre depicts Sacagawea looking forward with her young son, Jean Baptiste, carried on her back. This side of the coin bears the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 2008 year of issue and the S mint mark. The reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, features a majestic eagle soaring in mid-flight. Surrounding the flying eagle are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value of ONE DOLLAR.
