In 2008, the West Point facility of the United States Mint produced a tenth-ounce gold proof coin that showcases two iconic American themes. This particular specimen is certified in an exceptional Proof 69 Deep Cameo condition, highlighting the contrast between its frosted design elements and its highly reflective, mirror-like background fields. The front of the coin displays a celebrated figure of Lady Liberty, originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. She is depicted mid-stride, holding a torch to light her path and carrying an olive branch as a symbol of peace. The year 2008 is clearly inscribed alongside this classic image. On the reverse, a design by Miley Busiek captures a family of eagles. A male eagle is shown in flight, carrying an branch toward a nest where a female eagle and her young wait. This side also features the national mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," along with the face value of 5 Dollars and the weight of 1/10 ounce of fine gold. The total mintage for this specific proof issue was limited to 28,116 pieces.
