Struck at the West Point facility of the United States Mint, this modern gold coin contains a half-ounce of precious metal. It is a proof strike, meaning it was crafted with polished dies to produce a highly reflective, mirror-like surface that contrasts beautifully with the raised details of the design. The front of the coin displays a classic representation of Lady Liberty, who stands holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, with the year 2008 inscribed alongside her. This iconic image is a modification of the famous Gold Double Eagle design originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. On the reverse side, a family of eagles is depicted in a scene designed by Miley Busiek. A male eagle is shown in mid-flight above a nest, where a female eagle shelters her young eaglets. This particular issue had a limited global production, with a total mintage of 22,602 pieces.
