2008-W 1/2 oz Proof Gold Buffalo (w/Box & COA)
Introduced originally in 2006, the American Buffalo series represents a significant milestone in United States coinage. This 2008 issue contains one-half ounce of exceptionally pure 0.9999 fine gold, struck with a proof finish at the West Point Mint. With a limited mintage of just 12,169 pieces, this twenty-five dollar denomination coin is backed fully as official sovereign currency by the United States government. The obverse of the coin features a detailed profile of a Native American man, a faithful rendition of the iconic 1913 Buffalo Nickel design by James Earle Fraser. The year 2008 is inscribed clearly on this side, alongside the word LIBERTY. On the reverse, a powerful American bison stands in profile. This design is based on Black Diamond, a famous bison who lived in the early twentieth century. The reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the face value and purity markings of $25 and 1/2 OZ. 0.9999 FINE GOLD.
