Born in the year 1768, she wed her husband when she was just 17 years old. While her home was in Virginia, she spent significant periods of her life abroad during her husband's diplomatic service as a United States Foreign Minister. Her grace and charm during their time in France earned her the enduring French nickname of la belle Americane. Struck in a proof finish at the West Point Mint in New York, the coin is composed of a half ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold.
