2009 1 oz American Gold Eagle BU
Introduced in 1986, the American Gold Eagle series has become a cornerstone of modern coinage. This 2009 edition, containing one troy ounce of fine gold, is a legal tender fifty-dollar coin struck by the United States Mint at its West Point facility in New York. The physical composition of the coin consists of 91.67 percent gold, combining durability with the timeless luster of the precious metal. The obverse features a legendary design adapted from the historic Gold Double Eagle by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It portrays Lady Liberty walking forward with confidence, carrying a lit torch in one hand to light her way and an olive branch in the other as a symbol of peace. The background shows rays of light emanating from a rising sun, creating a powerful image of freedom. On the reverse, a modern scene envisioned by artist Miley Busiek depicts a male bald eagle returning to his family. The eagle carries an olive branch as he flies toward a nest containing a female eagle and their young. This side of the coin also displays the traditional national mottos, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," alongside the weight and face value inscriptions.
