2009-D District of Columbia Quarter BU

0.0000 troy oz 2009 Brilliant Unc

In 2009, the United States Mint expanded its circulating commemorative program to honor the nation's capital. This Denver Mint issue, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, features a copper-nickel clad composition and showcases a distinct departure from traditional statehood themes by celebrating one of America's greatest musical icons. The reverse of the coin features a detailed depiction of Duke Ellington seated at a grand piano, capturing a moment of artistic creation. This design, crafted by Don Everhart, is accompanied by the inscriptions DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, DUKE ELLINGTON, and the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM alongside the 2009 year of issue. On the obverse, the familiar left-facing portrait of George Washington, originally designed by John Flanagan, anchors the coin. The bust is surrounded by the traditional inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. The small D mint mark beneath the motto indicates its production at the Denver facility.
